Few supplies are needed and can be obtained at your local craft shop and hardware store.
Pattern - from MB Historic Décor
Paint of your choice – Jo Sonja water-based paint,
Brushes – we carry assorted sizes of stencil brushes
Spray adhesive for the back of the stencil
Masking tape, Scotch tape, automotive tape (gives a crisp line when stenciling against it)
Measuring tape and wooden or a cork back yard stick
Indelible fine point pen (if pattern is more than one color)
Pencil/eraser
Paper towels (Bounty brand)
Palette paper (or styrofoam trays)
Palette knife or craft (Popsicle) stick
Plastic wrap to cover exposed paint and wrap brushes
Chalk line or thread when painting all over floor patterns
Newspapers, paper bags for trash
Paint solvent – water for Jo Sonja paints, paint thinner for Japan oil paints
ScotchBrite and Simple Green to clean stencil or bristle brush and thinner for oil paints
Folded towel to kneel on
#400 Sandpaper
Damp cloth
Optional: card table
Polyurethane, water base – Jo Sonja for small floor clothes; or oil base or water base by the gallon for large floors
Stenciled floors are often given from 1-3 coats of brown antiquing stain and kept carefully coated afterward as wear begins to show. Jo Sonja paints mixed with their mediums can create a transparent stain to give an antiqued appearance.
